Liking What You Hear: Simulation to Improve Wind Noise During Vehicle Design
Reducing a vehicle’s interior noise is a top priority for engineers due to its impact on customer experience, brand loyalty, and sales. JD Power ranks wind noise among consumers’ top 10 complaints in studies of initial vehicle quality. The dominant high-frequency source of interior vehicle noise, greenhouse wind noise, gets its name from its origin: the greenhouse panels, as they transmit the aeroacoustic loads from noise sources created by turbulent airflow moving over the exterior shapes of the vehicle at high speeds.
