PowerFLOW Optimization Solution

Maximize cooling performance while minimizing cooling drag impact by optimizing design parameters such as grill sizing & position, heat exchanger position, and front vehicle shape.

Exa’s PowerFLOW Optimization Solution helps manufacturers meet design targets by finding their optimal design through automated, targeted simulation.

THE COMPETITIVE DRIVE TOWARDS SUPERIOR DESIGNS

Driven by a competitive marketplace and tightening regulatory pressures, vehicle manufacturers today are in a tight race to improve existing designs and create new ones.

Innovation efforts pose several design challenges:

  • Cost: A manual interactive approach to design costs manufacturers considerable time and money, even with efficient tools
  • Cross-discipline Design: The impact of design changes on multiple objectives across many disciplines needs to be considered
  • High-dimensional Design Spaces: Trade-offs between many design changes are difficult to comprehend with human reasoning; crucial nonlinear interactions are hard to predict
  • Design Aesthetics: Consumer demand is driven not just by product performance, but also aesthetics; engineers must understand the whole design space rather than just a single design to work with design studio

OUR OPTIMIZATION SOLUTION

Exa’s PowerFLOW optimization solution combines statistical analysis with the ability to simulate some of the world’s most complex fluid flow problems.  A fully automated optimization process uses statistical analysis methods to systematically explore the potential of design alternatives based on results from PowerFLOW simulations. The simulations are capable of accurately predicting real-world flow conditions without compromising geometric detail.  Plug-in integrations with the market-leading optimization analysis tools, modeFRONTIER® and Isight, enable easy setup and automated execution of simulations. These tools offer adaptive sampling capabilities to strategically simulate new designs, mathematical “response surfaces” generated from a small number of simulations, and advanced algorithms to identify trends and evaluate trade-offs providing a multi-dimensional analysis beyond the capability of human reasoning.  Exa’s high performance visual flow analysis tools are then used to understand and explain the trends seen in the statistical analysis.
