As part of the SIMULIA Brand, Exa develops, markets, sells, and supports software products and provide professional services for simulation-driven design. Leading manufacturers use our fluid flow, heat transfer, and acoustic simulation solutions to optimize the performance of their products, reduce product development costs, and improve the efficiency of their design and engineering processes.
Global transportation manufacturers face increasing pressure, from government mandates as well as from their customers, to improve the efficiency of their products and reduce the impact on our environment. This requires more efficient and alternative powertrains, more efficient vehicle shapes, and reductions in weight — all of which can be significantly improved by the adoption of simulation-driven design.
Simulation-driven design empowers engineers to predict product performance early in the design process, reducing late-stage design changes and reducing (or eliminating) expensive physical prototypes and tests. Our solutions encourage rapid iteration between design and analysis. They provide critical insight into how potential design variations impact the range of possible performance and enable the discovery of solutions that optimize the trade-offs between competing design and engineering constraints and requirements.
Currently, we focus primarily on OEMs and suppliers in the transportation market, including the automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway equipment, train, and aerospace industries. Over 100 manufacturers use our products and services, including 13 of the global top 15 passenger vehicle manufacturers. Our technology, however, is general purpose and we also serve the HVAC, AEC, power generation, biomedical, and electronics industries.
We employ a highly educated, culturally diverse team of over 350 people. Our corporate headquarters is in Burlington, Massachusetts, USA. Our sales and field engineering teams are located close to our customers throughout the world, with field offices in the United States, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Korea, and China. We have distributors in Brazil, India, and China. Our employees include world-renowned physicists in fluid dynamics and experts in engineering domains such as aerodynamics, thermal management, and acoustics. We work closely with globally recognized experts in order to maintain our state-of-the-art expertise. Click here to see a list of our global physics expert collaborators.
We provide solutions through our core software product, PowerFLOW®, and a suite of related products that support the complete simulation-driven design process. PowerFLOW is an innovative, best-in-class product for simulating fluid flow and heat transfer. Fully integrated with PowerFLOW, PowerTHERM is a best-in-class thermal conduction and radiation solver, and PowerACOUSTICS predicts transmission of wind noise to vehicle interiors and to the far field.
At Exa, we don’t simply provide software — we strive to provide a complete solution. We use the expertise of our people, and collaborate closely with customers, to develop applications designed to address specific engineering problems in the transportation market, including aerodynamics, thermal management, aeroacoustics, and climate control. These applications are thoroughly validated using an exhaustive set of experimental data. We provide application-specific validated best practices and complete methodologies for implementation that enable our customers to rapidly deploy the applications with confidence. PowerFLOW is based on an extended Lattice Boltzmann method that we refer to as DIGITAL PHYSICS®. This inherently transient, inherently numerically stable, patented technology enables PowerFLOW to predict fluid flow with a level of accuracy and insight into flow behavior better than possible with physical testing or traditional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods. With PowerFLOW, a single, fully detailed geometric model and a single physics model is used for all aerodynamic, aeroacoustic, and thermal simulations — an approach we call TotalANALYSIS™. This allows rapid cross-disciplinary trade-off studies, and reduces the time and expertise required to perform the analysis.
Founded in 1991, we are a public company listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the symbol EXA.
